Profile – Motivation

Agriculture represents a key element of our society at various levels and therefore needs to be the focus of sustainable development to serve todays and future generations. The role of agriculture in today’s challenges such as food and water scarcity, migration, unemployment, climate change, peace and economic development is often underestimated. To most of these issues, agriculture offers solutions, provided the implemented agricultural practices follow a sustainable development strategy.

Many initiatives from the private and public sector are currently carried out to tackle today’s agricultural challenges but most of them stay at a single company or academic level. It is of strategic importance to integrate, realize and further develop these initiatives at a regional and global level in order to guarantee the basic needs of humanity, such as for instance access to food and water, employment, living space, income, and a (more) equal distribution of wealth for future generations.

Therefore, we are motivated to scientifically prove, measure, develop and communicate the competitiveness of entities and products implementing the guidelines of the “Sustainability Flower” as jointly developed by a pioneering and opinion leading group of entrepreneurs that committed to sustainable development in any sphere of their business.

Being embedded in a three-fold-order of a cultural, social and economic sphere in today’s globalized, information and network driven society it is the human beings responsibility to leave a meaningful footprint on our planets natural environment. Meaningful in a sense, that pure sustainability will only maintain and conserve planet earth but in order to realize truly integrated and holistic competitiveness of our life-styles in times of shrinking natural resources and an increasing world population, there is the need for sustainable development concepts such as the Sustainability Flower.
